Midday
Regimen.

The Midday Regimen is Firebrand Initiative’s free 15-minute reset for the middle of a Christian man’s day. Block a recurring “Sacred 15” on your calendar and go somewhere quiet. Breathe, pray and read Scripture. Then reach out: a word to your wife if you’re married, encouragement for someone, and a check-in with your battle buddy. It’s the second anchor of the day, after the morning.

Why it matters

Why stop in the middle of the day?

Because that’s when the day sweeps you away. Meetings, notifications and endless lists crowd out what matters most, and a midday pause turns you back to God: “God, this day belongs to You.”

What a pause gives back

  • Clarity. Stepping back cuts through the mental clutter.
  • Gratitude. Noticing what’s good lifts your mindset and your energy.
  • Focus. Coming back to your values sharpens your direction for the afternoon.
  • Peace. A few minutes of stillness calms body and mind.
  • Resilience. Reflection renews your strength for the next challenge.

You don’t need an elaborate plan or a perfect place. It can happen at your desk, in your car or on a short walk. What counts is showing up honestly, with intention.

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

Psalm 46:10

Step 1 · block the time

How do you carve out 15 minutes?

Put it on the calendar. Make a daily recurring event, call it something like “Sacred 15” or “Daytime Reset,” and protect it. What gets scheduled gets done, and over weeks this appointment with God becomes as natural as lunch.

Block it out

  • Use your calendar. A recurring event at a set time, like 11:45 or 12:30.
  • Set a reminder. Five minutes before.
  • Tell people. Let coworkers or family know you’re unavailable for that window.
  • Pick your secret place. Your car, a quiet bench, a spare office: somewhere you won’t be disturbed.

A sample 15 minutes

  1. 011 minuteArrive, close your eyes and take a slow breath.
  2. 022 minutesThe centering breath (step 3).
  3. 033 minutesGratitude and prayer.
  4. 045 minutesReflect on Scripture, or listen to a passage.
  5. 054 minutesListen quietly, and note any thoughts or impressions.

It can feel wrong to step away from work, especially under pressure. These pauses are small sabbaths: moments where you hand your time, plans and worries over to God. Block your first window before you read on.

Step 2 · the accountability check

What is the midday accountability check?

A short reset that keeps you from drifting, the second anchor of your day after your morning routine. Start by asking yourself: “Have I made time for God today? Am I on track with my values?”

Keep it

  • Structured. The same order every day: breathing, gratitude, Scripture, reflection, prayer.
  • Intentional. Go in with one aim, like “offer my work to God” or “find peace in the chaos.”
  • Reminded. A daily alarm, or a note on your desk.
  • Committed. Before you leave, restate your intention for the rest of the day.

Make it stick

  • Tell a friend or battle buddy about your commitment.
  • Write a one-sentence reflection after each check-in.
  • Keep a streak tracker where you’ll see it.
  • Missed a day? Own it, reset and show up tomorrow.

Step 3 · 2 minutes

How do you do the two-minute centering breath?

Breathe in through your nose for a count of four, hold for four, breathe out through your mouth for six, stay empty for two, and repeat for two minutes. It calms your body and mind before you pray.

  1. 01Settle inSit or stand comfortably, close your eyes if you can, and relax your shoulders.
  2. 02InhaleSlowly, through your nose, for a count of four.
  3. 03HoldGently, for a count of four.
  4. 04ExhaleSlowly, through your mouth, for a count of six.
  5. 05PauseStay empty for a count of two.
  6. 06RepeatFor two minutes. If your mind wanders, bring it back to your breath.

Pair it with prayer. With each breath in: “Lord, fill me with peace.” With each breath out: “I release my worries to You.”

Step 4

How do you get Scripture into a noisy day?

Keep it on deck. When you feel the urge to check your phone, open a Bible app or an audio Bible instead, and let God’s Word crowd out the noise.

  • Audio Bible. Listen to a whole short book, like Philippians or James, over lunch, a commute or chores.
  • Read and repeat. Read a chapter in your Sacred 15, then read it again and let it sink in.
  • Write it down. Put a verse on a notecard and keep it where you’ll see it.
  • Try this. For one week, read or listen to one book, like Philippians, every midday break.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Psalm 119:105

Step 5

How do you replace social media with Scripture?

Replace it, don’t just remove it. Quitting cold turkey often leaves a void; filling those scroll moments with God’s Word is what retrains your mind.

  • Move your social apps into a hidden folder, or log out at lunch.
  • Put a Bible app or audio Bible on your home screen.
  • Set lock-screen reminders with a verse or an intention.
  • Mark every time you swap a scroll for Scripture.

Today, take one usual scroll moment and open Scripture instead.

Step 6 · for married men

How does a married man connect with his wife at midday?

Reach out in the middle of the day. A call or a text says, “I’m thinking of you. You matter.” Busyness builds distance without either of you noticing; small daily touchpoints keep you close.

  • A loving text. A compliment, a thank-you, a memory.
  • A verse. Bless her day with one that spoke to you.
  • An offer to pray. “Is there anything I can pray about for you today?”
  • Your voice. A voice or video message can mean more than text.
  • Your early days. Remember them, and be playful.

Set a recurring reminder right after your own check-in.

Step 7

Why encourage someone every day?

Because many people quietly carry anxiety, doubt or discouragement, and one sentence can change the course of their day. Encouragement is one of the most Christlike gifts a man can give.

  • Text: “I’m grateful for you.” “I believe in you.”
  • Leave a ten-second voice message.
  • Pass on a verse or a line that hit you today.
  • Leave a note.
  • Pray for someone, and with them.

Keep a running list of friends, coworkers and family, so that over time everyone gets a word.

“Encourage one another and build each other up.”

1 Thessalonians 5:11

Step 8

What is a battle buddy check-in?

A short daily text or call with a brother committed to the same growth: your wins, your struggles, your next steps, and a prayer for each other. It’s the third anchor of the day. No man is meant to walk this alone.

  • Share your goals honestly.
  • Exchange your Warrior’s Creeds.
  • Check in every afternoon: wins, struggles, next steps.
  • Pray for each other.
  • Celebrate consistency, however small.

If you can, schedule it right after your own midday regimen.

“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”

Proverbs 27:17

Routines don’t hold you accountable

Brothers
do.

A routine on paper is a start. Most men need someone who will notice when they stop.

That’s what the free community and Firebrand mentorship are for: brothers who ask how the day went, and mean it.

The rest of the day
